The story behind elektra x and are you married. . .well yes and no. My absolutely amazing boyfriends name is Eric and we did get married years ago . . . I even wore black – my grandmother was not amused! We put on the play The Frog Prince – changed the play a bit. Poor Eric had to wear a huge Frog head and green tights! At the time George Bush Sr. was President so the play centered around “The Evil King Bush” who was played by my father in full King costume! The Evil King would not allow homo sapiens and amphibians to marry. But we were in love . . . So our friend Jeff playing the jester put some sugar cubes in the kings coffee (to sweeten his mood). . .My dad got all “happy” danced around in his King costume to the song I can see clearly now the rain is gone. He was fabulous. So anyway in the end he changed the law and we were able to get married. But when we kissed Eric turned into a prince. Later we realized – we gave everyone else tons of lines but we did not have any! It was a most excellent wedding! Then after being married for a year we both started reflecting on how people treat you so differently since being married. For one all my birthday checks (I am the only child and only grandchild on both sides of my family) came to Mr.and Mrs. Eric Kent. I was like ‘scuse me some of you have not even met him yet! . .Also, it was like it legitimized our relationship as well to so many people. Even though we had been together for four years – now it is for real?
Besides there are so many people who can not get married because of bigotry in this country – the whole thing was just too hypocritical. Anyway we decided to get divorced and have been living happily ever after since. We had a fantastic divorce party – there were prizes for guessing my new name. Oddly enough a friend of mine who I had not seen for years guessed it – he also guessed my reasoning and everything. Having to have either your fathers name or your husbands name – it made me just feel like a second class citizen. So the letter X seemed perfect as that was how people signed their name when society standards kept them from learning how to write. Elektra was another guess – I liked it so much that I made it my middle name. Plus I have my porn name if I ever want to get into that. . .

Hi Erika!
You know – I am so down with on the blog thing – sometimes I just have no clue about it. It certainly is taking me awhile to find my way. I am not much into spilling my private life or being too chatty with an imaginary audience! It really is a bit odd – but what the heck giving it a try!
Have a fabulous rest of the day! And thank you for your sweet comment on zee blog!

I also just stole the name of my 6th great grandmother’s sister ‘Ledgant East’ to take as my own.I thought it was such a nice strange name for a girl.I found out later she was born the same day as me which made it better.
People should pick their own names
as D.H Lawrence once said
“I don’t like your miserable single ”front name.” It is so limited, so meager; it has no versatility; it is weighted down with the sense of responsibility; it is worn threadbare with much use; it is as bad as having only one jacket and one hat; it is like having only one relation, one blood relation, in the world.” one should probably pick three or four names and interchange them.
my father says its sounds like a disease ..like Legionnaires’ Disease :x

LOL! I just found this little gem of your’s tucked away from prying eyes!! Had to laugh about the name change thing… I told my 83 year old mother the other day that I have always hated my name (Deborah Ann) and that I was thinking having it legally changed. I was kidding, but then she took me seriously and then *I* started taking it seriously. My Dh thinks I’m whacked… and I am sitting here thinking hmmmm… I’ve always loved the name Zoe…..

My cousin walked down the aisle with a bulldog dressed as a frog. Your idea sounds like so much fun. And it’s so nice that you are living happily ever after.
I got married 25 years ago and did the traditional take the husband’s name thing – I loved my new initials: “leg” (instead of “lec,” though I liked that too). My mother made a monogramed memento for our wedding using the “G”. My sister asked her why it wasn’t a “C.” Although her question wasn’t meant that way, good point!
My stripper name (adapted from Ru Paul’s method) is Boots Barrus. Hee. :

Often wondered….what a delightful
storyreality. My auburn-haired aunt changed her name when she was a teenager. “Golden” must not have been a desirable one in the 1930′s.Nov 23, 2007 @ 08:37:06
I am thrilled to read this… and want to encourage anyone who is considering changing their name… if you’ve been thinking about it for 10 years and still want to but are afraid what people will say.. DO IT! (I moved to Oregon and found out the court costs were only $60 or so! That helped!! Calif was $400)
But I LOVED finding the DH Laurence quote – and since I still love my first First Name, I may take Ledgant’s suggestion and KEEP changing it up!

Interesting…I always disliked my name, it took growing into. It isn’t easy being 5 and a Natasha, especially not when everyone else is a Katie or a Susie or a Megan. Then the middle and last name were a whole different level of hatred, lol. I actually legally changed my middle and last name when my parents split up and I decided that my abusive ex-father just didn’t deserve the right to have me carrying his name (plus it was long and ugly and un-pronouncable and thoroughly Eastern European, lol) so I chose a new middle name (the female version of a deceased uncle’s name whom my mom was very close with that I never met) and a shortened hybrid of my mom’s maiden name (which my brother ended up taking as his last name as well). I love it now and would be very loathe to just dump it and take my husbands name one day…maybe I’ll hyphenate…but a friend once said “Tash, why would you mind to change your name if you got married? I mean, it technically isn’t REALLY your name anyways?” And I said “Hell yes, it’s my name! I chose it, dammit!”
